Patience at the Blackjack Table

While blackjack is a fast-paced game and can be a lot of fun, being hasty can cost you money. One of the most important virtues when it comes to being good at blackjack is patience. You need to detach yourself from emotion and not get worked up about a hand that you lost or a hand that if you had played differently you would have won. These thoughts will cloud your judgment and can result in bad plays which will cost you money. This can often create a vicious cycle of losing and poor judgment and losing until you blow up and lose all of the money with which you sat down. There is nothing more painful than going on tilt, getting very emotional, and blowing up your bankroll.

That is why the most important aspect of blackjack is patience. You need to wait for the cards to come to you. Unfortunately, the cards are not hot all the time and you will get streaks where you just can’t get a good hand. It is during these times where the emotions of a blackjack player are tested. Being able to sit there and take the bad hands and not get worried or angry will keep your mind sharp and calculating so that when the cards do change, and they always do, you will be able to capitalize on your good fortune with the skill and discipline that you displayed when things were not going your way.
